In 2001 Cathe founded the 501 (c) (3) Corporation in the USA: The American Friends of the Phelophepa Train (www.trainofhope.org). The Phelophepa Train operates, within Transnet Ltd. and is the world’s first mobile health care clinic that services rural people in remote areas of South Africa with much needed primary health care services. In 2008, Phelophepa-I became the first sustainable South African initiative to receive the prestigious United Nations Public Service Award for its excellence in public service delivery. Among other accolades, in 2011 Phelophepa-I was honored by the International Society of Nursing with the Sigma Theta Tau International award, for making a visible difference in the lives of citizens in rural areas. In 2012, a second medical train was launch, Phelophepa-II.
