General Meeting: An Introduction to Decarbonizing the Built Environment

  • 1901 1st Avenue New York, NY, 10029 United States (map)

Please join us for our second general meeting of the year. This month, we welcome Phoebe Doros, Project Engineer at Ecosystem. [Registration Link]

Did you know that the buildings sector emits 39% global CO2 emissions, 28% of which come from the operation of buildings and 11% of which come from building materials and construction? By some estimates, the global building stock will double by 2060. In addition, according to the United Nations, 68% of the world’s population is expected to live in urban areas by 2050. This creates an urgent incentive to decarbonize the buildings we have and determine how to build net-zero carbon buildings in the future.

Phoebe Doros is a Project Design Engineer working for Ecosystem, a Quebec based design and construction management company focusing on energy efficiency in the existing buildings. Over the past two years, she has worked to design energy saving projects for K-12 schools and universities in the Mid-Atlantic region. A graduate of Case Western Reserve University and a native Jerseyite, she is passionate about combating climate change and working towards transitioning towards a green energy economy. Phoebe also champions social justice in the professional world, sitting on Ecosystem's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee.

In this meeting, Phoebe will discuss on the need to decarbonize the built environment, especially:

1. What are building emissions and why are they important?

2. What problems are out there?

3. What can we do about them?

4. What does the future look like?

Ecosystem helps companies adopt a sustainable development policy. They provide an opportunity to review corporate practices, see the progress accomplished to date by the company, and identify areas for continuous improvement.

The meeting will again be on a hybrid format with our physical location in the Upper East Side at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan located at 1901 First Avenue, New York, NY 10029.

FOR IN PERSON: DIRECTION: The entrance will be located on East 97 Street, between 2nd and 1st Avenue. Upon arrival, please enter through the hospital lobby and make your way through the sixth (6) floor via Elevator A: our room will be right on the right side. [MAP]
